The Movement Centre’s full time staff attended the 2016 Association for Conductive Education in North America’s (ACENA) Conference in Orlando from March 2nd to March 4th, 2016. The Movement Centre, a member of ACENA, was very well represented with 13 staff present at the conference hosted by the Conductive Education Center of Orlando (CECO)! The trip was made possible through the efforts of our staff holding various fundraisers including a 50-50 draw, bud spud & steak night, chocolate sales and more to raise the needed funds.
Following a tour of CECO, Executive Director Margy Nelson shared her experience and success as the founder of The Movement Centre, a non-profit Conductive Education Centre in Winnipeg. The first day ended with a networking event where we had the opportunity to share and listen to other individuals in the Conductive Education field. The following days were an immersive learning experience for our staff filled with presentations and seminars based on Conductive Education, disabilities, methodologies, ideology and the list goes on.
The trip was an amazing team building experience. Living with each other for the duration of the trip, paired, with activities that helped us learn more about each other strengthening our relationships and allowing us to understand each other and ultimately work together more effectively.
It was truly a fantastic trip and our staff were very thankful for the opportunity to be present.
We are excited to bring back and implement what we’ve learned to improve our Centre and our Conductive Education programs!
